Beach House Becomes Reality III
This beach house turns into a three bedroom!
This client had hoped to have enough room for groups of family and friends to come and enjoy this piece of paradise with them! They knew the best way to accommodate more guests and maximize the rental potential was to add a third bedroom but it was a challenge to rethink the original floor plan.
The “before” picture above, shows the living room with the formal dining room visible through the archway. Just beyond the dining room is the kitchen. To the left, out of sight, is the sunroom with the view of the ocean. One of these “public spaces” of the home would have to become the new master bedroom.
Thinking “outside the box”!
Since the sunroom was the gathering place and the dining room had only three full walls, the living room was chosen to become the master bedroom. Unfortunately, there was not enough room to add a center hallway to help isolate the living room and divert the traffic flow from one end of the house to the other.
To provide the appropriate level of privacy for a bedroom, the bi-fold doors leading to the dining room were replaced with sliding barn doors while drapery hardware and full length panels were added to the atrium doors leading to the sun room.
Use that vertical space!
The pictures below are of the original master bedroom. We took advantage of the ceiling height and added bunk beds for extra guests. A soft blue wall color and lighter carpet give a breezy feel to the room. This client looked for the finishing touches such as bedding, art, and accessories with a nautical theme to create a cheerful and relaxed atmosphere her guests would enjoy returning to.
A year-round getaway!
This vacation home has become a year-round getaway for this busy couple to escape the stress of daily life. There is a strong possibility that with the addition of a second story, this may eventually become their retirement home!
